Bird Watching

An unforgettable night

Mornings, and throughout the day the crocks are less active, and you will find these slumbering reptiles submerged in the cool water pool or ‘dug-outs’, with only a pair of eyes on view.

Bush babies are found in forests in Gambia and around Jinack Island. Also called galagos, Bush Babies are small, saucer-eyed primates that spend most of their lives in trees. At least 20 species of galago are known, though some experts believe many are yet to be discovered. Also known as nagapies, which means “night monkeys”

Bird Watching on Jinack Island

Don't forget your binoculars and camera!

An abundance of beautiful birds visit us! Jinack Island, The Gambia is a bird watching enthusiasts heaven. The island habitats include mangrove swamps, mudflats, dry woodland, salt marsh, grassland, lagoons, dunes and beach flats. The shallow waters just after the north shore provide superb feeding grounds for gulls, terns, and other piscivorous species which roost in significant numbers off Buniadu Point, on the northernmost shore and its coastal lagoon. The area is frequented by European migratory birds wintering here.
